What this site all about? Mixture of Holiday Cottage, Fishing, Museum and an
Engineering consultancy business! Strange mixture.......
Let me explain I am Iain Taylor I run a Chemical Engineering consulting
business. IW Taylor,com.
My family own and run a farm in Galloway. They are semi retired and let out
the farmland to the neighbours. My mum runs a holiday cottage, Hawthorn,
which is her pride and joy. Having been in the holiday business for over 20
years, Helen really enjoys making her visitors feel welcome. Keeping the
cottage to very high standards. She is very organised and very particular when
it comes to cleanliness. I suggested we add a few pages for the cottage to
help advertise. She hates computers and does not want anything to do with
them. But most people, like you, research stuff on line so I convinced her to let
me put up a few pages.
My Dad, James, has farmed Barraer for over 50 years. Now semi retired he
has become a collector of old farm machinery .Several large farm buildings
are now full of farming treasures and memorabilia. He is always delighted to
show people round. FWAG are helping him make it a commercial exhibit but
we are not sure when he is going to open it.
In 1977, when I was 11, Dad and I stood looking out over a peat bog. The
previous summer had been very dry with no water for the cattle. This was a big
problem. We would spend long hours hauling water around the farm. He said
look at this bog we could get some dynamite and blast the peat out to make a
reservoir for the summer and pipe it all over the farm. "Great" I said
"EXPLOSIONS fantastic". The other option was to dam off a narrow basin. "I
really like the blasting option Dad" I said, But Dad built the dam instead.
Stocked in 1979 its been a brown trout fishery ever since.
So that's us we invite you to come see for yourself; fish, stay in the cottage,
look round the museum, take a walk round the farm or I could always build you
a processing plant! Hope you enjoy the site.
